It's easy to read and understand, and covers many interesting topics. In such environment, what Comer does the best is ordering of topics so that each chapter patiently builds upon previous chapters, never leading reader to uncharted territory.

This is the one feature of this book that I value the most. Level of technical detail in networking is overwhelming, but Comer carefully picked details necessary to keep the steam up. Every chapter starts with very brief introduction, mainly serving as a motivation for the chapter, followed by lengthy discussion of technical details, and finally ending with a short summary, pointers to other sources RFCs, books, and articles and wealth of exercises.

Significant share of exercises in the book is relying on external sources, which can be seen as motivation for further reading. Answers to some of the exercises can be derived directly from the text, but there are many exercises discussional in nature.

Those I liked the most.

Caveat lector: To conclude this review, I couldn't recommend this book more. It is the perfect first book on networking for anyone willing to invest some decent hours in it.

A detailed look at the transport of the Internet.

As one who spent days configuring an NT server into a multihomed host using subnetting, a lot of the information is already known, but would be a good introduction for a technical minded person who can resist the urge to sleep. Starts out with obligatory origins of the net, thru dotted decimal notation, etc.

Would be a good textbook fo A detailed look at the transport of the Internet. Would be a good textbook for a course.
