Date published: Rated 4 out of 5 by Solo from Many detailed characters This book is off to a slow start in the first few chapters, but as is the case with many Charles Dickens novels, you end up happy to have persevered. I love its humour.

I would refrain from encapsulating the plot since many others have already done this more wonderfully than I would be able to. From the very first page to the very last, every word on every sentence dances rhythmically, and pleases one to read same paragraph again and again.

David Copperfield, with eBook

Only Shakespeare, it seems, could have written more poetically and with such sentiment. This is a novel that must be in the library of every lover of literature.

If you have not read Dickens, start with this. Perhaps not; he was certainly not better than Tolstoy, but as you read his works, you can feel the smoothness of his pen on the paper.

We meet David when he is born. His father has died and his mother has the misfortune to marry a harsh man who arrives in the household complete with an even harsher sister so that David gets the benefit of both an evil step-father and 'step-mother'.

Things just keep getting worse. For items not readily available, we'll provide ongoing estimated ship and delivery time frames. Once your order has been dispatched from our Sydney warehouse you will receive an Order Shipped status email.

David spends his early years with his mother and their housekeeper, Peggotty. David returns home for the holidays to learn that his mother has given birth to a baby boy. Among the gloriously vivid cast of characters he encounters are his tyrannical stepfather, Mr Murdstone; his brilliant, but ultimately unworthy school-friend James Steerforth; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble, yet treacherous Uriah Heep; frivolous, enchanting Dora Spenlow; and the magnificently impecunious Wilkins Micawber, one of literature's great comic creations.
