Wiley Instructor Companion Site. Related Titles. Exams , , and Exam Exam , Exam , Exam , 2nd Edition. A relatively "short" read for a book covering so many topics. This is one of those intangibles that could be really helpful for believing that getting through the book is really doable.

Sometimes a really thick book or in some cases a pair of thick books can seem very intimidating as you think of how long it will take to get through them. Probably the strongest and the most valuable content of the book and what sets this book and Mr. Lammle apart. The techniques and shortcuts on memorizing certain things to help you subnet in your head quickly. I use these methods today on a regular basis.

The subnetting material in this book alone is worth downloading the book. Wireless chapter and ipv6. Written and Lab exercises at end of chapters to ensure you grasp the material. Hands-on practice, for most, really help solidify the information and Todd does a good job of including Lab exercises for most chapters You will learn from this book that Lammle likes to be brief and and not over complicate any topic.

He explains most topics as in they are easy and straight forward.

In reality, most things are pretty easy and straight forward Weaknesses: Frame-relay I felt was not covered very well nor was it explained very well. For example regarding DLCI addressing.

Yes, DLCI's are always only locally significant but it didn't go into the examples of local vs global and how do decipher what addressing is used if you are viewing a diagram and its not specified, etc.

As well as it left out examples of multipoint interface configurations and different frame-relay topologies. Basically, to me, this chapter left me with more questions coming out of it than going into it. As some have said, the writing style of this book is of the conversational type, which is fine when reading from start to finish but it makes it difficult to quickly reference information you may want to retouch on later on, because you have to sort through sentences and and sentences at times to find specifically something you are looking for, such as a specific command, which could be like finding a needle in a haystack The outputs from cli are sort of bunched in between through the chapters and not organized as well.

Again, I found it difficult having to reference material previously read. Sometimes certain material could seem scattered and not as well organized as it could have been.

Frequently bought together

Overall the book delivers, and I as I mentioned the subnetting material in the book is gold and makes it worth the download alone, but I strongly recommend to not rely on only one source for preparation of the exam. There may be certain topics and subjects that one author or instructor may know how to communicate better than others and vice versa. Final word on preparation for the exam: If you really want to go in there and pass the test with flying colors, I suggest using one primary book for your studies, and one back-up to aid after you have finished reading this book.

Then after you are finished, figure out what areas you feel least comfortable in and attack those aggressively; watch videos on the subjects tons of free stuff on youtube etc , spend extra lab time hands-on on those topics, and with precision, tailor and design your studies to suit what you feel is needed for yourself; read more on those specific topics you feel you did not grasp very well, whether it be because you just didn't get it or felt the book didn't cover enough for you to get it.

If you put the work in, you will pass the exam, this applies to whatever book you chose to use for your studies. It's very important you put the time in with hands-on exercises and practice as much as possible, this will solidify all the stuff you read and hear about.

One person found this helpful. This author claims to be the guru of Cisco certifications I've bought 3 CCNA books as should anyone, this book is flat out the best compared to the other two but he doesn't explain certain things as much as he could while in other areas it seems a little over kill. It's impossible to please the mass, so I fully understand that. I read on a forum which is totally true that he does come off as condescending in some parts of the book which I started picking up after I was told about it The CD is limited to say the least in what it comes with compared to other IT books that come with free software.

With all of that said, if I had to suggest a single book to someone getting their CCNA, it would be this book! See all reviews. Customers who viewed this item also viewed.
