I did have a few doubts when I realized the ministries and characters, involved were mainly Pentecostal, as I come from a middle class family, and was raised in a non-denominational setting.

While I wouldn't discount the things I've learned from the church, I feel there were spiritual aspects seldom mentioned. The power of the Holy Spirit, or the work of the enemy -constantly working at tearing us down.

Spiritual warfare itself, though usually, it's hardly spoken of among Christians I know. And while I'm sure this isn't always the case with all Evangelical and Non denominational Christians, Run Baby Run reminded me that there is a tremendous battle being waged.

It reminded me that there is a great evil that can manifest itself in many ways, and trying to self medicate will not solve anything. That we can not be so intent on fitting in that we forget that this is not our home.

Out hearts and minds must be transformed, renewed by the Holy Spirit. To put it briefly, this book is about redemption, relational redemption, and being bought back, paid for to be free. Nicky Cruz was a man who would have never thought to love, a killer, a gangster, but the seriously overwhelming, never ending love of God changed that.

Jul 11, Brandon Duncan rated it it was amazing. Dec 08, Justin Rose rated it it was ok. Cruz may have some good and inspiring stories to tell, but he adds too much circumstance under the auspices of divine intervention.

I think in Latin American this kind of story telling is accepted, but in English speaking America, this comes across as patronizing. Another thing that would have made this book better is if Cruz concentrated on a few stories in detail, rather t Cruz may have some good and inspiring stories to tell, but he adds too much circumstance under the auspices of divine intervention.

Another thing that would have made this book better is if Cruz concentrated on a few stories in detail, rather than a lot of stories briefly. He talks about drug addiction so passively that it is hard to believe that he was an integral part of that culture.

Finally, Cruz presents an unbiblical understanding of the grace of God. Over and over he presents being healed from drug addiction as the result of people laying hands on the addict's head while praying.

¡Corre! Nicky ¡Corre! (Run Baby Run)

While this does happen, it is an exceptional miracle, not an expected result as Cruz makes it sound. Such miracles demonstrate God's grace, but his grace is more vividly displayed when Jesus accepts people into his fold who are sick, who have trouble remembering their friends' first names, who still burn with that physical urge for inebriation.

Another area where Cruz has an unbiblical even cultish understanding of God's grace is the Pentecostal movement's understanding of the filling of the Holy Spirit.

His idea that there is a second filling of the Holy Spirit makes this experience dependent on man's work, not God's grace. And his connotations of the gift of tongues demonstrate spiritual gifts of the devil, not of the Holy Spirit. Jun 02, B.

The bulk of the book is about Nicky's experience in the gang called Mau-Maus. Truthfully, the kid was a terror and that's putting it mildly. The stage is set. Nicky was a ruthless violent thug, the police were scared of him and he was pretty much immune to reprisal. Enter David Wilkerson, skinny preacher. Dav I really enjoyed this book and read it twice. David presented Jesus and afterwards, Nicky was never the same. The second half of the book is how Nicky became a preacher and helped go back to the streets he had grown up in during Teen Challenge's formative years.

For anyone looking for a book about the life changing power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, this is the book. The only negative thing I can say about the book is that Nicky placed a big emphasis on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit in the modern day, which I really don't know that I agree with for reasons I will avoid here. He also had some sort of connection to Kathryn Kuhlmann who was almost like the Benny Hinn of her day.

So with those two facts, I would advise readers to proceed with caution, exercise Acts I'm not dpubting Nicky's salvation, just advising to be careful if you are a young Christian.
