All these little things make you realize that people are reading your site and that you have an influence. I really believe in bringing good energy out there so everything counted, the feelings I had towards people that I was shooting, and all that. So they're not all my besties but they're very welcoming, inspiring women and I like how they live their lives and the way they carry themselves. So I've been kind of picky and they're kind of a group of people that I love and admire a lot.

HB: Are you an editor or a builder when it comes to your wardrobe? Really, I'm both, like every woman, but I feel the best when I do a great edit and I never regret parting with any clothes because I know there is always something better coming.

You know I used to carry around stuff, like I just came back from Paris and I had two boxes in Paris to leave in New York and when I opened these boxes I could not believe it was six years ago I couldn't part with these clothes.

They didn't mean anything and they didn't have anything special, but at that time I was very very attached to my clothes. Now, I've learned that the less things I have, and of course we're talking about somebody who works in fashion so it's not like I have no clothes, but the less I have, the better I dress because I can see what I have.

That's the most important in the morning. When you have pairs of jeans, you don't know what you're doing, but when you have 5, you can say, "Okay, I know exactly what I want to wear today. We all know people who have worn a uniform and are amazing and don't want to think about it and they pick what they love the best.


I just love fashion, I could never commit to wearing a uniform. I guess my mom. She loved beautiful things, but at the same time, she was always cutting through vintage clothes and making them hers. She really kicked my ass in that way. Do you have a sentimental piece of clothing at home, something from when you were a young girl?

Who are your style icons? You get attached to them. I have one thing though.

They change all the time. So my style icons are people that are very independent and individual. Like Lauren Hutton. So people like that. Strong, confident, kind individuals. What advice would you give to a woman looking to discover her personal style? I talk about the four ways there are of discovering yourself.

Let me pick it up because I have it here. The first one is to dress according to your lifestyle, so that you look good but also at ease. On my days of shooting for example, I rarely wear high heels. Fashion is really communication.

A good pair of jeans, a perfect tee-shirt, and a lot of self-love! What is your definition of style, in the context of fashion? What is your definition of beauty? I think the same goes for, girls who have curves…But the real secret is to feel really good in your own skin. It goes beyond clothes and it projects a real aura.

So, I think moving and dancing and hiking and inhabiting your body, filling it with joy and experiences is the secret to elegance and style. What is style today? They have a new bag, a new thing everyday. Who are you?

To me, beauty is like light. You can see that in people.From start to finish how long did it take you? Dresses are for little girls, anyway. And then the writing came, and the communicating with people, and then the photography, where you have to actually be with people, and so it kind of gave me a balance, you know.
