There she discovers the so-called "genius academy" is actually a school for people gifted with special powers called "alices". Her friend Hotaru is one of these. Ten-year-old Heroine Mikan has just received a disastrous "no-star" rating at the Alice Academy. As a result, she's been demoted-she has to. Jan 10, Rebecca McNutt rated it really liked it Shelves: Impressive book, I really liked the imagination of the story, however the depth of emotions and the behavior that the characters have really seems inconsistent with their age. Otherwise I think this is a great graphic novel. Feb 11, Jeffrey rated it liked it Shelves: Mysterious school? While the series doesn't appear to be subverting the mysterious school genre, it at least has some interesting bells and whistles.
Worth taking a shot. May 26, Mei rated it it was amazing Shelves: Awalnya aku nggak begitu suka karena buku ini menceritakan kehidupan anak-anak sekolah dasar.

Tapi aku suka tokoh Natsume.
Karena semua seriesnya so damn amazing.
Kecuali, fakta kalau mereka masih SD, karena itu aku kurangi 0. Apr 20, Sesana rated it liked it Shelves: Here is another manga that I haven't decided yet if I will continue following. The premise is pretty simple, and pretty familiar.
Mikan is trying to get into a special school for Alices, because her best friend Hotaru is going there now. As she discovers, Alices have a magical ability that can be powerful and even destructive. Her Alice is a mystery to her until the end of the volume, but most readers will figure it out very early on. So yes, it is rather like X-Men in some ways, except that the Here is another manga that I haven't decided yet if I will continue following.
So yes, it is rather like X-Men in some ways, except that the main characters are all very young, elementary age. Mikan herself is usually sweet and cheerful, and I liked her. But I didn't really like any of the other characters. And although I liked some of the more original aspects one of the other students has an ability to make enchanted toys, and starts with a territorial teddy bear it's still very familiar over all.
Oct 10, Shea rated it it was ok. It was all so simple in the anime with a nice climax and a nice ending, so what happened with the manga? Then I was done. Of course, there are better shojo out there, one most resembling this is Shugo Chara. But as a person who rarely reads shojo manga this was a huge disappointment. Fellow humans in search for a cute and hilarious fantasy manga. I always passed the shelf with this series in the library and I never took notice of it until one day when I pulled out volume 2 yes, I started with volume 2 because I couldn't find volume 1.
And now that I'm reading volume 24, I can easily say. I LOVE this series!! I am madly, passionately, and irrevocably in love with it!
Which is why I'm super happy to say that Gakuen Alice is my first 5-star-rated manga on goodreads.
I love the art and plot of Gakuen Alice. The series starts out with a girl named Mikan Sakura who loves her best friend, Hotaru, to death. But when Hotaru decides to be sent to an elite academy where she won't be able to see Mikan, Mikan swipes her grandfather's stash of money and runs to Tokyo where she knows she'll find the academy.
When Mikan arrives to the academy, the first person she meets at the academy is Narumi, a teacher that teaches within the academy. He states that only certain children may enter the academy, but he notices something about Mikan that makes her eligible to be accepted in the academy. The academy is called "Alice Academy", an academy for child prodigies with gifts called "Alices", which are supernatural powers. Ever since Mikan gets accepted into the academy, she endures all sorts of adventures.
I classify this series as a comedy, romance, drama, and fantasy. It's one of my absolute favorite manga in the entire universe and I definitely encourage shoujo fans to read it. Reasons why Theresa gives this series a perfect five-star rating: Believable Character Emotions I can't spoil any of the romance for you guys, but the romance that does occur in this book wasn't hurried and smooshed into the first few volumes.
The two characters I cannot mention their names, I'm sorry!! Love isn't smooshed together in the first week of the setting. Love isn't rushed, based purely on looks, and in Gakuen Alice's romances, one loves the other even if they have the biggest flaws.
I love Higuchi's romance for Gakuen Alice. Capability to make me smile. I love anything that makes me smile, let alone laugh and curl into a little ball and roll around in the floor in giggles.
Gakuen Alice's art is adorable and the manga overall makes me laugh. I can't find another manga or novel or story or plot that's anything like Gakuen Alice. I find stories with the same factors and the same kind of romance and the same kind of comedy, but I never, ever, ever, ever, ever have found a story that was extremely similar to Gakuen Alice.
Gakuen Alice, Vol. 02
It's truly an original idea. I appriciate originality because, like I say in a lot of my reviews, I'm tired of seeing stories that are like repeats of Twilight. Yes, the irony of a hunter and its prey falling in love with one another makes a good story, but I'm ready for something new. It's currently on it's 25th volume right now, so it's ending soon. Now go read it. View all 4 comments. Aug 02, Jody Mena added it Shelves: This is actually much better than I expected!
It's like a cute, shoujo cross between X-men and Hollowfeilds. I have to wonder why they refer to a child's special ability as an "Alice", since that seems like such a random name for it; the only reference I can think of is Alice in Wonderland, falling down the rabbit hole into a place where the rules are upside down and inside out.
The cutesy friendship-centered surface of the story belies the depth of the plot. The children are surprisingly violen This is actually much better than I expected!
The children are surprisingly violent - the worst sort of bullies, but with superpowers - and the theme of "Alice-supremacy" amongst the students reminded me of the Death Eaters from Harry Potter; it cast a darker dimension over the whole story. I was thrilled at how Mikan stood up to them, and I really enjoy her Alice!
I wonder what Natsume's reasons for trying to escape are? There were some hints in Luca's flashback, but only enough to tempt the imagination. I have a feeling that the sinister twists not finished yet when it comes to this series. How exciting! Feb 19, Robin rated it really liked it.
I kept hearing that this was the "next Fruits Basket" as that's what TP wants you to believe, and though I was dubious I was charmed right away by this first volume. It skews a bit younger than Fruits Basket, by virtue of the fact that it's about elementary school students, but the cute art, silly sense of humor, and magical circumstances do give it a similar appeal to Fruits Basket. I was initially unsure as to whether teens would be put off by the young age of the heroine she's 10 but I don' I kept hearing that this was the "next Fruits Basket" as that's what TP wants you to believe, and though I was dubious I was charmed right away by this first volume.
I was initially unsure as to whether teens would be put off by the young age of the heroine she's 10 but I don't think they'll care -- it's such an engaging adventure, and I particularly thin it will be great for younger teens. Gakuen Alice, Vol. 01
Jul 31, Wardah rated it liked it. Rating untuk seluruh seri. Apr 26, Jane Rose rated it really liked it Shelves: I gave this volume a four instead of a five, because the intensity and plot declines in this book. This volume is more of a transition between the first story arc, and some of the plot are a little filler-ish. I still really enjoyed this volume and the series on a whole, just this volume is a little more set up after the initial bang. Going back and reading this series, I realize that the detailing of the world and the plot is a little self-indulgent and immature, but I feel like this writer doe I gave this volume a four instead of a five, because the intensity and plot declines in this book.
Going back and reading this series, I realize that the detailing of the world and the plot is a little self-indulgent and immature, but I feel like this writer does it well.
Somehow Higuchi-sensei makes this world and all her details work, they don't feel false or stupid or wrong. I don't know how else to explain it but that. Let me try an example. There are a lot of technicalities about this world, how powers work and the limitations, that could come off as the author jumping through hoops to create certain situations, but it works here.
Does that make sense? I don't know. Basically this author is a good writer, and her self indulgent moments that could feel false instead are endearing and enrich the world. Mar 14, Evee rated it really liked it. Honestly, I feel so sad that Mikan's grandpa waits for her every day yet she can't go up to him and talk to him.
I know they're special but still Mikan gives up on it really quickly though I'm serious, if he keeps coming daily to see if she's ok he will die. Dude if her grandpa dies I would legit sue the school.
Apr 20, Inah Solacito rated it really liked it. While you think this is your another cheerful girl in a school with bad classmates story, you start to somehow sense that something dangerous and big awaits. It scares me too. Sep 07, Senuri Sucharitharathna rated it it was amazing.
I Love it. Cerita makin menarik! Aug 26, Ashley Chen rated it really liked it Shelves: Overall, I think this is a great manga series. After reading the first two volumes I can see a lot of potential for this. This manga really reminds me of n YA paranormal academy series. There are so many blank spots on the canvas right now that I can't wait to see the finished product. I shall now ramble some random thoughts that popped into my mind while reading this volume. Mikan has the personality of Naruto.
Her never-give-up attitude is adorable. She can be funny, silly, and just damn sweet. When she cries, you can't help but awww a little. Haha, I am not surprise that the panties incident got mentioned again. Sarah, if you want to know what this incident is about, read Gakuen Alice ;P I think my favourite character so far is Luca. I don't know there is just something sweet about him that makes him adorable.
Shreya darling, is the love triangle between Luca, Mikan, and Natsume? Please tell me it is not that cliche. It is cool to learn about the ranking system and the classes for different Alices.
It is nice to see how the school works but of course more mystery is thrown in as well. I love the mystery behind the school I can totally see Tachibana Higuchi grinning as I suffer with the suspense and Natsume.
Jinno sensei is strict!

I don't to have him for a teacher. I can die from anticipation Helllooo Tsubasa Andou. Yeah, once again, that is not really a good review.
It is so hard. P You will probably see more of these type of "I'll-just-put-things-that-just-randomly-popped-in-my-head" reviews. It is great at this moment. I just hope there will be breathtaking epicness coming that will promote this to a 5 starred series. Oct 17, Doreen rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: I came to these manga by the anime, having been introduced to the charming series by my boyfriend, who is always trying to broaden my anime-horizons I'm not the biggest fan, to be honest, as most anime tends to be either too perverse or opaque for me.
My manga experience has also been limited to, I'll admit, the entire run of SailorMoon, even when it got boring and stupid, and a copy of Dragonball Z here and there.

I'd been looking for the books for a while, and was gratified to find that the larger chain bookstores had recently begun carrying them Vol 5 due out in December!
I wasn't entirely sure whether the anime had provided a faithful translation, and while there are differences, both versions of the story have proven very entertaining. The manga, in particular, is packed with funny little comments from the author: Overall, a lovely book that made me laugh out loud and tear up in a span of pages.

Nothing in my world moves me. Friendship, enmity, danger to romance, this is just too precious. I classify this series as a comedy, romance, drama, and fantasy.
Absolutely amazing, the mangaka is a treasure. Whether it's Hotaru's gift for inventing gadgets, the cranky Natsume's fire-casting ability, or Professor Narumi's control of human pheromones, everyone at the school has some sort of special talent.
